Thrashed

She showed up at the dock, wearing boat shoes and a bottle of rye

She was aware of the storm, started laughing at the big old sky

“Don’t sail out in these winds,” we pleaded, and worried, as she stood at the mast

“I’ve played it safe my whole life, now it’s time to get thrashed!”

Those clouds are calling my name, don’t you hear them

I’ve tied enough knots to know that no one’s ever safe

When I pull up these sails, I’m gonna aim em so the wind hits em right in the eye

And then if make it, watch me fly

And if I make it, I will fly

Rain started beating, town folk meeting, no one could persuade her to stay

Her hair was flying, green eyes shining, she hoisted, boat started to sway

The sail was flapping, the worst almost happened, then she turned the angle

toward me

The boat stabilized, the wind hit the eye, she was free

Those clouds are calling my name, don’t you hear them

I’ve tied enough knots to know that no one’s ever safe

When I pull up these sails, I’m gonna aim em so the wind hits em right in the eye

And then if make it, watch me fly

And if I make it, I will fly

Thought she was gone, we were damn wrong, she returned on a raft

“Sail busted,” I heard her say, “but I stayed on until I crashed”

“Now Stop your gaping, I’m not breaking, I had a blast, I’m not dead”

“Just take my hand and lead me to my bed”

Waves, rain, salt, hail

When will mine sail

Wind comes surges by

Someday, we’ll all fly

We’ll all fly away

Those clouds are calling my name, don’t you hear them

I’ve tied enough knots to know that no one’s ever safe

When I pull up these sails, I’m gonna aim em so the winds hit em right in the eye

And then when make it, watch me fly

And when I make it, I will fly

And when I make it, I will fly
